Infusion Services Training

The provider of infusion services is required to ensure that clinicians who perform the services
under his or her direction are properly trained and competent to perform the infusion –
whether in the office or home setting. Evidence of the training and competency assessment
should be maintained in the provider’s records. The new Home Infusion Benefit codifies the
requirements in the release of the CY 2019 Medicare Home Health Final Rule (CMS-1689-FC). It is
now a requirement that the billing provider maintain evidence of training and competency in
its records, not just the entity with whom the provider contracts for clinical services. As
accreditation standards are released, the industry can expect even more scrutiny of the
provider’s training and competency processes!

MJS & Associates, LLC, in concert with its soon to be released “Home Infusion Services” manual,
announces a comprehensive training and competency evaluation program to go live April 10,
2019. The web-based training consists of a series of YOUTUBE videos presented by the MJS
infusion RNs and provided on the MJS private YOUTUBE channel. Each module will provide
information that is consistent with the Home Infusion Services manual chapters including, but
not limited to, safety considerations, types of infusions, assessment strategies for home
infusion capabilities, clinical procedures, complications, documentation standards, teaching
strategies and much more. Each module will require approximately 60 minutes of attendee’s
time and will conclude with an on-line competency test for certification purposes. Successful
completion of each module will be documented in an on-line certificate available for immediate
release to the attendee. Continuing education credits are currently pending.
